Altec M21D tube Mic
The Altec M 21D TUBE microphone still being used today by Capitol records. They have 6 of them.With reverse engineering will probably be reproduced for mass production.

Microphones unlike computers that change every day have remained the same
over the last 50 years. In a recording studio good microphones are a must. The Neumann M149 , The U 87, AKG C12, . You need some excellent Tubes and condenser Mic's. Depending on your budget. You can do with excellent dynamic microphones also. Not every one can afford to have a collection of U48 like EMI in London. I believe they have a dozen of those.
The Beatles with their talent were lucky to have access to all those U48. Were has Elvis had
only RCA ribbon Mic's.The difference between the U 47 and the U48 is in the selection of pattern for the U48. The U47 was only omni directional. The U48 had a selection switch from omni to unidirectional and figure 8 .Now the electronics had something to do with the different patterns and not mechanics as in dynamic Mic's.
